Basic knowledge of silicone sealants
1. Classification:
Silicone sealant can be divided into two categories from the product packaging: single-component and two-component. The curing of single-component silicone sealant is caused by changes in physical properties due to contact with moisture in the air;
Two-component silicone sealant means that the silicone glue is divided into two groups, A and B. Neither group can solidify if it exists alone. But once the two sets of glue are mixed, they solidify.
Currently, the most common one on the market is single-component silicone sealant.. Single-component silicone sealant is divided into acid silicone sealant and neutral silicone sealant according to their properties.
Acid silicone sealant is mainly used for general bonding between glass and other building materials. Neutral glue overcomes the characteristics of acid glue that corrodes metal materials and reacts with alkaline materials, so it has a wider range of applications and its market price is slightly higher than that of acid glue.
A special type of glass glue on the market is silicone structural sealant. Because it is directly used for the metal and glass structure or non-structural bonding assembly of glass curtain walls, the quality requirements and product grade are the highest among glass glues. The market price is also the highest.
2. Purpose
(1) Acid silicone sealant(for exampleThrows 733)
① Suitable for sealing, blocking, leakage prevention and windproof purposes. It is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use (the indoor effect is better), and the anti-seepage and leakage-proof effect is remarkable.
② Bonding of various interior decorations of automobiles, including: metal, fabrics and organic fabrics and plastics.
③ Engage the gaskets on the heating and cooling equipment.
④ Install ribs without screw holes, nameplates and paint plus plastic materials on the metal surface.
⑤ Seal the windows on the oven door, the flue, pipe joints, and access doors on the gas appliances.
⑥ Provide instant-formed leak-proof gaskets for gearboxes, compressors, and pumps.
⑦ Seal the cabin and windows.
⑧ Sealing of trailer and truck cab windows.
⑨ Bonding and sealing equipment components.
⑩ Form an anti-wear coating.
11 Inlaid and true-filled thin metal sheet lamination, pipe network and equipment casing.
(2) Neutral weather-resistant silicone sealant (Throws 789)
① Suitable for weather-resistant sealing of various curtain walls, especially recommended for weather-resistant sealing of glass curtain walls, aluminum-plastic panel curtain walls, and stone dry hanging;
② Seam sealing between metal, glass, aluminum, ceramic tiles, organic glass, and coated glass ;
③ Seam sealing on concrete, cement, masonry, rock, marble, steel, wood, anodized aluminum and painted aluminum surfaces. In most cases there is no need to use primer.
(3) Silicone structural adhesive (Throws 793)
① Mainly used for structural or non-structural bonding devices between metal and glass of glass curtain walls.
② It can directly connect glass to the surface of metal components to form a single assembly component, meeting the design requirements of curtain walls with fully or semi-hidden frames.
③ Structural bonding and sealing of insulating glass.
3. Restrictions
All kinds of silicone sealant are subject to the following restrictions when used:
① It is not suitable for construction in places that have been soaked in water for a long time;
② It is not compatible with materials that will leak grease, plasticizers or solvents;
③ It cannot be used on frosted or wet surfaces. Adhesion;
④ It cannot be cured in a completely sealed place (silica gel needs to be cured by moisture in the air);
⑤ The surface of the substrate is not clean or strong.
